Have you been thinking about starting a new fitness plan, maybe you would like to start to run but don't know where to begin? You might think running a 5km (3.1 miles) is for experienced runners, but that's simply not true. The beauty of the PFM Coaching Couch to 5K (C25K) program lies in its accessibility. It's designed for absolute beginners, taking you from the comfort of your couch to conquering a race distance in a structured and achievable way.
Who is C25K for?
This program is perfect for anyone who:
How Does C25K Work?
PFM Coaching's Couch to 5k plan is 10 weeks long but you can repeat weeks as required. The plan incorporates a mix of running and walking intervals which builds your endurance gradually, starting with short running segments interspersed with walking breaks. As the weeks progress, the running intervals lengthen, while the walking periods decrease. This allows your body to adapt comfortably, minimizing risk of injury. We all progress at different rates however so if at any time a week seems difficult simply repeat the week and extend the plan to suit you!
What are the Benefits of C25K?
Beyond the incredible achievement of completing a 5K, here's what you can expect:
What do I need to start?
The first step if you are new to exercise is to get the all clear from your GP, once that is out of the way you can start working towards a more active, healthier version of you.
Equipment
To begin running you really don't need any fancy equipment, you can get started with:
While there are technical versions of these which will make the experience more comfortable they are not essential initially. Trainers designed for running will however be far more comfortable than fashion trainers.
